By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Private First Class James C. O’Neill (ASN: 1551135), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Battery E, 76th Field Artillery Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Private First Class O’Neill distinguished himself by his bravery and tireless devotion to duty at Madeleine Ferme, France, 26 October 1918 and 27 October 1918, in hauling ammunition to the battery position in the face of heavy German gun fire. Although on two different occasions the horse driven by him was wounded, he fearlessly continued the execution of his duty, thereby rendering possible the continuance of our own fire.
