O’Neill (ASN: 1551135), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, American Expeditionary Forces, for gallantry in action and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the Victory Medals awarded him. Private First Class O’Neill distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with Battery E, 76th Field Artillery Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action near Madeline Farm, France, 26 – 27 October 1918, while delivering ammunition to his battery during artillery bombardment.

While serving with Battery E, 76th Field Artillery Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Private First Class O’Neill distinguished himself by his bravery and tireless devotion to duty at Madeleine Ferme, France, 26 October 1918 and 27 October 1918, in hauling ammunition to the battery position in the face of heavy German gun fire. Although on two different occasions the horse driven by him was wounded, he fearlessly continued the execution of his duty, thereby rendering possible the continuance of our own fire.
