Corporal O’Leary distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with Battery A, 122d Field Artillery Regiment, 33d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action during the Argonne-Meuse Offensive from 26 October to 11 November 1918, near Romagne, France, in repairing lines of communication under fire.
