Sergeant Monsky distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with Machine Gun Company, 167th Infantry Regiment, 42d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action in the Vosges Sector, France, 28 July 1918, in voluntarily taking charge of a machine gun squad and going forward in the attack.
