By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Chief Mechanic Aaron Miller (ASN: 306718), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Battery C, 76th Field Artillery Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Chief Mechanic Miller demonstrated extraordinary bravery and devotion to duty in action on 7 October 1918, near Montfaucon, France. Mechanic Miller examined and tried to put back into action two guns which had been hit and rendered useless by hostile shell fire. He did this work at the guns after three men had been gassed in these positions and while the positions were still filled with gas and constantly under shell fire.
