By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Chief Mechanic Aaron Miller (ASN: 306718), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, American Expeditionary Forces, for gallantry in action and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the Victory Medals awarded him. Chief Mechanic Miller distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with Battery C, 76th Field Artillery Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action near Montfaucon, France, 7 October 1918, while endeavoring to repair damaged fieldpieces under enemy artillery fire.

While serving with Battery C, 76th Field Artillery Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Chief Mechanic Miller demonstrated extraordinary bravery and devotion to duty in action on 7 October 1918, near Montfaucon, France. Mechanic Miller examined and tried to put back into action two guns which had been hit and rendered useless by hostile shell fire. He did this work at the guns after three men had been gassed in these positions and while the positions were still filled with gas and constantly under shell fire.
