Middleton (ASN: 542868), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, American Expeditionary Forces, for gallantry in action and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the Victory Medals awarded him. Corporal Middleton distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with Company L, 7th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action near Fossoy, France, 15 July 1918, in assisting in maintaining liaison under heavy shell fire.

Middleton (ASN: 542868), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Company L, 7th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, on 15 July 1918, near Fossoy, France, Corporal Middleton remained on post at Battalion Post of Command for over twelve hours continuously under heavy shell fire and at grave danger to his life, by his coolness and judgment facilitating the work of liaison by runners which at no time during the bombardment and attack failed, although all other communication was broken.
