By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Private Alphonse McDonald (ASN: 550032), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, American Expeditionary Forces, for gallantry in action and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the Victory Medals awarded him. Private McDonald distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with Company C, 38th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action on the Marne, France, 15 and 22 July 1918, while maintaining communications during enemy bombardment.

No. 43, W.D., 1918), Private Alphonse McDonald (ASN: 550032), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Company C, 38th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Private McDonald displayed exceptional bravery on the Vesle, in August 1918. He conducted a relief under heavy enemy gas and shell fire. By his coolness he aided greatly in the success gained. He later established and maintained liaison with French units while under heavy fire.
