By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), First Lieutenant (Infantry) Bruce M. McDill, United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, American Expeditionary Forces, for gallantry in action and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the Victory Medals awarded him. First Lieutenant (Infantry) McDill distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with the 9th Machine-Gun Battalion, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action at Crezancy, France, 15 July 1918, in visiting all his guns and inspiring his men under an enemy barrage.

While serving with the 9th Machine Gun Battalion, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, at Crezancy, France, 15 July 1918, Captain McDill displayed great gallantry and devotion to duty during the enemy bombardment. Under heavy artillery fire he gave first aid to wounded and personally visited his guns to keep them firing.
