By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Sergeant First Class Michael J. McCue (ASN: 159079), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Company F, 6th Engineer Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, at Mezy, France, on the night of 21 July 1918, Sergeant First Class McCue showed exceptional bravery and coolness in rowing across the Marne Rifer to reconnoiter the enemy bank, under sniper fire and heavy artillery fire. Also in rescuing some infantry men when their boat capsized under the same hazards.

Sergeant First Class McCue distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with Company F, 6th Engineers, American Expeditionary Forces, in action near Mezy, France, on the night of 21 – 22 July 1918, while assisting in the rescue of several infantrymen from drowning in the Marne River.
