By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Sergeant Charles E. Little (ASN: 542393), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, American Expeditionary Forces, for gallantry in action and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the Victory Medals awarded him. Sergeant Little distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with Company I, 7th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action on 15 July 1918, near Fossoy, France, in organizing and maintaining a relay of runners under heavy enemy fire.

While serving with Company I, 7th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, on 15 July 1918, near Fossoy, France, Sergeant Little exhibited exceptional bravery and disregard for danger in organizing, establishing and maintaining through heavy shell fire and at great danger to his life, a relay of runners between the Battalion Post of Command Third Battalion, and the Post of Command of the Commanding Officer of the right flank, at a time when his flank was seriously threatened by the enemy.
