While serving with Company C, 6th Engineer Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Villette, France, on 10 August 1918, the bridge was damaged by enemy fire. Corporal Kellog again was a member of the detail and was engaged in repairing the bridge in daylight under observation by the enemy when he was killed by machine gun fire. His exceptional bravery and his disregard for his personal safety which resulted in his death, was an example which caused the detail to work with him in the open under fire and to successfully accomplish their mission.
