Jones (ASN: 2298096), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, American Expeditionary Forces, for gallantry in action and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the Victory Medals awarded him. Sergeant Jones distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with Battery B, 10th Field Artillery Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action near St. Eugene, France, 15 July 1918, in voluntarily repairing telephone lines under heavy shell fire.

While serving with Battery B, 10th Field Artillery Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, on the night of 15 July 1918, near St. Eugene, France, under a severe shell and gas bombardment when all communications were shot out, Sergeant Jones courageously volunteered to repair lines, when other men hesitated to venture out. He showed an utter disregard of personal danger and inspired confidence in his men by repeatedly noble conduct.
