While serving with Battery F, 76th Field Artillery Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Private Hollings performed conspicuous services in battle at the forward observation post of his battery, overlooking the Marne River, near Chateau Thierry, France, on 15 July 1918, during heavy enemy shelling, which resulted in his being wounded.
