Harmon (ASN: 546429), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, American Expeditionary Forces, for gallantry in action and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the Victory Medals awarded him. Sergeant Harmon distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with Company E, 30th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action during the Meuse-Argonne Offensive, France, 10 October 1918, while commanding a company through several engagements.

While serving with Company E, 30th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Sergeant Harmon showed courage and utter disregard for personal safety in the Argonne-Meuse Offensive, 30 October 1918, by taking command of the company after all the officers were wounded, and guiding them through danger until the company was relieved and he himself was evacuated to the hospital from exhaustion.
