By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Corporal Andrew Hardin (ASN: 549511), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Company A, 38th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Private Hardin displayed extraordinary heroism near Fismes, France, 7 August 1918. While his company was being heavily bombarded, Private Hardin voluntarily exposed himself in order to administer first aid to wounded comrades. Later when connections with an assaulting wave were destroyed, Sergeant Hardin voluntarily went forward with a patrol, under heavy enemy fire, and reestablished liaison.
