No. 43, W.D., 1918), Corporal Andrew Hardin (ASN: 549511), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, American Expeditionary Forces, for gallantry in action and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the Victory Medals awarded him. Corporal Hardin distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with Company A, 38th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action near Fismes, France, 7 August 1918, in volunteering to accompany an officer on a patrol.

While serving with Company A, 38th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Private Hardin displayed extraordinary heroism near Fismes, France, 7 August 1918. While his company was being heavily bombarded, Private Hardin voluntarily exposed himself in order to administer first aid to wounded comrades. Later when connections with an assaulting wave were destroyed, Sergeant Hardin voluntarily went forward with a patrol, under heavy enemy fire, and reestablished liaison.
