While serving as Adjutant, 1st Battalion, 18th Field Artillery Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Lieutenant Dunn proceeded to batteries one kilometer north of Le Donjon Farm, under very heavy shell fire when communicant had been broken to deliver messages as to firing and remained on duty with the battery after having been gassed.
