Corporal Doran distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with Company F, 38th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action near Moulins, France, 15 July 1918, while conducting a liaison patrol during enemy bombardment.

No. 43, W.D., 1918), Corporal William Doran (ASN: 550882), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Company F, 38th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, during the Battle of the Marne, 15 July 1918, Corporal Doran and his squad were given the mission to keep liaison with the unit on the left. Owing to the terrain this was a hazardous and difficult mission and was only accomplished by the splendid leadership of Corporal Duran.
