Brown, United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, American Expeditionary Forces, for gallantry in action and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the Victory Medals awarded him. Private First Class Brown distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with Company C, 1st Field Signal Battalion, attached to 2d Battalion, 6th Regiment (Marines), 2d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action near Thiaucourt, France, 15 September 1918, in repeatedly going through heavy machine gun and artillery fire in order to maintain telephone communication to the rear.
