Herndon, United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, American Expeditionary Forces, for gallantry in action and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the Victory Medals awarded him. First Lieutenant Herndon distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving as a Medical Officer with the 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action south of Soissons, France, 21 July 1918, while attending the wounded during enemy bombardment.
