Fitzpatrick (ASN: 1193760), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, American Expeditionary Forces, for gallantry in action and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the Victory Medals awarded him. Private Fitzpatrick distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with Headquarters Company, 10th Field Artillery Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action near Courbon, France, 14 July 1918, in voluntarily carrying messages during a heavy bombardment.

This he did bravely through the heaviest bombardment and after running messages spent the remaining part of the night and morning repairing lines under fire of gas and shell.
