Corporal Faute distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with Company A, 9th Machine-Gun Battalion, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action at Paroy, France, 14 – 15 July 1918, in firing his gun until forced to take cover on account of the intensity of the enemy fire.

While serving with Company A, 9th Machine Gun Battalion, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, at Paroy, France, 15 July 1918, both Corporal Faute and Private Ferriaolo during the enemy bombardment courageously kept heir guns firing and with little protection for themselves.
