Private England distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with the Medical Detachment, Company D, 311th Infantry Regiment, 78th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action in Boise de Grande Fontaine, France, 26 September 1918, in dressing the wounded under a heavy barrage until exhausted.
