While serving with Company I, 30th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, while on duty as a Runner, Private First Class Boyce displayed great courage and resourcefulness during the intense bombardments of the Champagne-Marne Defensive, 15 – 18 July 1918, in the Bois D’Agremont near Crezancy, France, maintaining close liaison between Regimental Headquarters and all units of the 30th Infantry Division, when other means had failed.
