By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Reverend James M. Blaise, a United States Civilian and Volunteer Chaplain, is cited by the Commanding General, American Expeditionary Forces, for gallantry in action and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the Victory Medals awarded him. Chaplain Blaise distinguished himself by gallantry in action while attached to the 4th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action near Le Charmel, France, 26 July 1918, in several times going to the aid of wounded men under heavy shell fire.

    By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Reverend James M. Blaise, a United States Civilian and Volunteer Chaplain, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While attached to the 4th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, during an attack on the heights near Le Charmel in the midst of a heavy barrage which the enemy put down on the town to prevent the advance, Reverend Blaise several times, voluntarily and at great personal risk left a place of comparative safety and fearlessly exposed himself to go to the aid of wounded men.
