By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Major (Medical Corps) John T. Barbee, United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, American Expeditionary Forces, for gallantry in action and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the Victory Medals awarded him. Major Barbee distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving as a Medical Officer with the Sanitary Detachment, 30th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action near Crezancy, France, 15 July 1918, in caring for the wounded under terrific shell fire.

Barbee, United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving as Commanding Officer of the Sanitary Detachment, 30th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, during the 2d Battle of the Marine on 15 July 1918, near Crezancy, Major Barbee at the risk of life displayed utmost courage in caring for the wounded under terrible German preparation fire and frequently removed his gas mask although exposed to gas, in order to better care for the wounded during the bombardment. He did more than could have been expected of him even in discharging his full duty.
