Sergeant Bannon distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with Company K, 23d Infantry Regiment, 2d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action at Chateau-Thierry, France, 6 June 1918, while holding a position with an automatic rifle, thus enabling his platoon to reorganize.
