By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Second Lieutenant (Infantry) Landaff W. Andrews, United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Company L, 30th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, on the night of 15 July 1918, near Crezancy, France, Lieutenant Andrews moved his platoon three times through the barrage and occupied his position in an open field, throughout the whole action displaying coolness and unquestionable courage. On 23 July Lieutenant Andrews advanced his platoon as a part of the company about two kilometers, being under shell fire the entire time. He also rendered invaluable service in caring for wounded without regard for his own personal safety.
