Headquarters, 3d Division, A.E.F., Citation Orders No. 22 (July 8, 1919)
By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Major (Infantry) Rollo C. Ditto (ASN: 0-2687), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Headquarters, 7th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, on 10 October 1918, near Madeline Farm, France, during the Meuse-Argonne Offensive, while the 7th Infantry was making a daylight change of positions under direct observation of the enemy, Major Ditto exercised initiative and resourcefulness, and showed utter disregard for heavy shell fire in progress, in personally assisting in collecting and reorganizing units scattered by shell fire, and leading them to their positions.
