General Allen trained the 1st Infantry Division for its part in the landings in North Africa, led it in those landings and through the Tunisian Campaign. His skill as courage as a soldier, his forthright and frank personality, and his determination to carry through to his assigned objective in spite of all obstacles have enabled him to lead his division with outstanding success through months of arduous combat service, and have created in this division an unusual and marked esprit de corps. The singularly distinctive accomplishments of General Allen and his dedicated contributions in the service of his country reflect the highest credit upon himself and the United States Army.
