The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, 20 July 1942, takes pleasure in presenting the Legion of Merit (Army Award) to Lieutenant Colonel Curtis T. Beecher (MCSN: 0-65), United States Marine Corps, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States as Commanding Officer of the First Battalion, Fourth Marines and the East Sector Beach Defenses of Corregidor in the Philippine Islands from December 1941 to May 1942. He skillfully organized and directed the operations of his beach defense sector and maintained a high morale and combat efficiency among his units. Through his outstanding leadership and professional knowledge, Colonel Beecher contributed greatly to the defense of Corregidor.
