Albert Pierce was ordained as a Congregational minister in 1906, and pastored in Connecticut, New York, and Massachusetts, prior to being commissioned a U.S. Army Chaplain in World War I. Following the war he moved to Washington, D.C., and then to California where he pastored the First Congregational Church of San Francisco from 1933 to 1947. He died at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Oakland, California, in 1948.

    By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Captain (Chaplain’s Corps) Albert Noble Pierce, United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, SECOND DIVISION A.E.F., for gallantry in action and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the Victory Medals awarded him. Chaplain Pierce distinguished himself while serving on the Staff of Major General Lejeune, in France, in 1918.
