Appointed a Cadet in the Coast Guard upon graduation from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 1897, Thomas Molloy was commissioned a Coast Guard ensign through the School of Instruction of the Revenue Cutter Service in 1899. He retired as a U.S. Coast Guard Rear Admiral in 1945.

RAMBLER, engaged in the important, exacting and hazardous duty of transporting and escorting troops and supplies through waters infested with enemy submarines and mines, during World War I.
