The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Private Clayton Kirk Slack (ASN: 2055344), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 8 October 1918, while serving with Company D, 124th Machine-Gun Battalion, 33d Division, in action at Consenvoye, France. Observing German soldiers under cover 50 yards away on the left flank, Private Slack, upon his own initiative, rushed them with his rifle and, single-handed, captured ten prisoners and two heavy-type machineguns, thus saving his company and neighboring organizations from heavy casualties.
