By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Corporal Clarence M. White, United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Company F, 3d Supply Train, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Conniges, France, 18 July 1918, Corporal White while driving a ruck loaded with casuals who were to act as stretcher bearers, was forced to travel over almost impassable roads, under the observation of the enemy, in order to reach his destination. Through his devotion to duty and exceptional courage, after he had been re-loaded with wounded, who had been exposed for several hours, the lives of these men were probably saved.
