By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Corporal Sidney W. Watkins, United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Company A, 3d Supply Train, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Corporal Watkins volunteered to haul ammunition with his truck, with no regard for his personal safety, to machine gun emplacements over almost impassable roads. Upon arrival at his destination his truck was re-loaded with wounded who had been waiting several hours for transportation to the rear for medical attention. By his untiring efforts he undoubtedly saved the lives of the men who were in need of immediate attention.
