By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Sergeant First Class Donald M. Nelson, United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with the 3d Supply Train, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Sergeant First Class Nelson displayed the utmost coolness and courage near Courboin, France, on 16 July 1918, while in charge of a detail of trucks which were moving the 30th Infantry Regiment to a point of safety for the purpose of reorganizing. After being wounded Sergeant Nelson, who was riding a motorcycle, rode until he fell from loss of blood, after he had assured himself that his men had been taken care of.
