    By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Private Ralph B. Threlkeld (ASN: 431801), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Ambulance Company No. 5 3d Sanitary Train, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Private Threlkeld showed extraordinary heroism in evacuating wounded in the Marne engagement from 14 July to 10 August 1918, and in the Argonne-Meuse Sector, from 1 to 30 October 1918. Especially commendable was his work in the vicinity of Cunel, where he rant he gauntlet of shell fire and machine gun fire in order to evacuate several severely wounded men.
