By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Private Henry Davis (ASN: 1169707), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Ambulance Company No. 5 3d Sanitary Train, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Private Davis showed extraordinary heroism on the Marne engagement from 14 July to 10 August 1918, and on the Argonne-Meuse Sector from 1 to 30 October 1918. Especially commendable was his work during the first three days of the Marne Offensive, when he repeatedly risked his life evacuating the various Battalion Aid Stations. Once at Nesles, while leading his ambulance, the aid station was demolished, and several wounded. With great coolness, he helped dress wounds and move the patients to safety until he could evacuate them with his ambulance.
