    By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Private First Class Francis J. Eder (ASN: 1274420), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Field Hospital Company No. 27, 3d Sanitary Train, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, from 4 June to 28 July 1918, at Verdelot, France, Private First Class Eder displayed unusual ability and devotion to duty in the handling and care of the wounded admitted during that period, remaining on duty in the wards until obliged to retire on account of exhaustion.
