    Headquarters, 3d Division, A.E.F., Citation Orders No. 22 (July 8, 1919)

By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Wagoner Rufus M. Jenkins (ASN: 1196303), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Ambulance Company No. 5, 3d Sanitary Train, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Wagoner Jenkins showed extraordinary heroism and devotion to duty driving his truck from 15 to 19 July 1918, without rest, thus evacuating an enormous number of wounded. During these three days he risked his life repeatedly by searching for wounded in places like St. Eugene and Le Rocq Ferme, which were under the most intense shell fire. He also continued his fearless work on an ambulance on the Marne until 10 August, and on the Argonne-Meuse Sector from 1 to 30 October 1918.
