    Headquarters, 3d Division, A.E.F., Citation Orders No. 22 (July 8, 1919)

By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Wagoner John H. Hoff (ASN: 1196301), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Ambulance Company No. 5, 3d Sanitary Train, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Wagoner Hoff showed extraordinary heroism and devotion to duty in the Marne engagement from 14 July to 10 August 19189, and on the Argonne-Meuse Sector from 1 to 30 October 1918. Especially commendable was this soldier’s work in driving his ambulance through the intense barrage of the first three days of the German Offensive. He repeatedly risked his life in the evacuation of wounded from the Battalion Aid Stations, and though his ambulance was struck by shell splinters, continued his driving without hesitation.
