By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Wagoner Preston P. Everheart (ASN: 1140046), United States Army, is cited (Posthumously) by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Ambulance Company No. 7, 3d Sanitary Train, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, on 15 and 16 July 1918, during the Second Battle of the Marne, Wagoner Everheart drove an ambulance for 48 hours, without relief, evacuating the wounded from the front. On 8 August 1918, at St. Gilles, he pulled a Ford ambulance from a creek between the town and Fismes, during very heavy artillery fire from the enemy. During the time that his company was in action at the Marne from 15 July to 10 August 1918, and the recent Argonne-Meuse Offensive from 30 September to 14 October 1918, when he received a mortal wound, he displayed a high degree of courage and devotion to duty.
