    Headquarters, 3d Division, A.E.F., Citation Orders No. 22 (July 8, 1919)

By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Farrier Thomas E. Taylor, United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with the 3d Sanitary Train, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Montfaucon, France, 6 October 1918, Farrier Taylor repeatedly exposed himself to great danger in evacuating wounded under heavy shell fire. Near Avocourt, France, on 5 October 1918, when a soldier had carelessly thrown a grenade with the fuse pulled near his ambulance, he fearlessly and with great presence of mind, seized the grenade and tossed it to a safe distance, by this action saving the lives of his orderly and his animals.
