By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Corporal Lacy T. Adams (ASN: 1193501), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with the 3d Sanitary Train, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Corporal Adams was the first to volunteer as an ambulance driver in the absence of other drivers who were taken sick. Having driven his ambulance 36 continuous hours over the heavily shelled roads between Montfaucon and the Regimental Aid Stations, he found that his services as a driver were still needed, and without rest continued to drive his ambulance for 12 additional hours, remaining on duty 48 consecutive hours.
