By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Sergeant Charles J. Ketterer (ASN: 1193491), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Ambulance Company No 27, 3d Sanitary Train, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Sergeant Ketterer assisted Sergeant First Class Joe Ady in dispatching and receiving ambulances, and under almost constant exposure to shell fire, manifested such splendid courage and bravery as even the most trying and dangerous moments failed to diminish. On numerous occasions he volunteered to accompany ambulances to the Regimental Aid Stations to insure their quickest and safest passage over congested and heavily shelled roads.
