By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Sergeant Johnnie J. Fuchs (ASN: 1196295), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Ambulance Company No. 5, 3d Sanitary Train, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, while acting as Motorcycle Messenger at Headquarters, Sanitary Train during the Meuse-Argonne Offensive from 1 to 30 October 1918. Sergeant Fuchs executed the rapid transmission of important messages between these headquarters and the aid stations over roads constantly exposed to enemy shell fire with splendid courage and bravery.
