By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Sergeant First Class Burt Youngs (ASN: 1196078), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with the 3d Sanitary Train, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, on the morning of 4 October 1918, at Montfaucon, France, Sergeant First Class Youngs voluntarily remained under violent shell fire and assisted in the care of wounded. At all other times when under shell fire Sergeant Youngs showed good judgment, coolness and devotion to duty. His actions are admired by all who know him.
