By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Sergeant First Class Joe Ady (ASN: 1193489), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving as Transportation Sergeant at the Dressing Station of Ambulance Company No. 27, 3d Sanitary Train, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, at Montfaucon, during the activities of the 3d Division from 1 to 30 October 1918, Sergeant First Class Ady was undaunted by the severity of enemy shell fire to which he was almost constantly exposed, and executed the dispatch and receipt of ambulances to and from the different aid stations. Although seriously ill for thee days with a fever of 103, he repeatedly requested not to be evacuated, but remained at his post of duty, showing absolute disregard for personal safety, and by so doing furnished a most inspiring example to those about him.
